How You Can Help mentoring tutoring sponsoring a child/family Christmas bears rummage sale fundraisers
YOU can make a difference in a child's life! Emerson Centre is always looking for kind-hearted individuals who would like to spend time mentoring and/or tutoring a child in need. Emerson Centre believes providing at-risk youth interaction with positive role models can increase appropriate behavior for the youth. Emerson Centre is always looking for kind-hearted individuals who would like to spend time mentoring a child in need. At Emerson Centre, we try to ensure both a positive experience for both the child and the mentor by pairing a child with a mentor that fits that child's specific needs. As a part of the mentoring process, each mentor has a screening/interview to better determine what child the mentor should be paired with. In addition, there is an informal orientation to learn more about the mentoring process. Tutoring is a wonderful way to spend time and share knowledge with a youth! Many of the youths seen at Emerson Centre are struggling academically and could use help in a wide range of subjects. Emerson Centre sees youths ranging from kindergardners to high school seniors. One way to really make an impact on a child and/or family is to sponsor them. At Emerson Centre, we try to minimize the losses that children experience. One way that this can be accomplished is by providing support and being a resource for a family. For example, as a sponsor of a child, you can ensure that the child has a gift to open on their birthday and on Christmas morning. In addition, you might want to help the family during the back to school season by providing school supplies. When sponsoring a family, you can get as involved as you wish. In the past, we have had church groups who have sponsored a family throughout the entire year doing something for the family each season and for each holiday. However, we have also had groups who have been one time sponsors and donated a holiday meal for a family in need. No deed is too small and all generosity is appreciated by the families. Each Holiday Season, Emerson Centre likes to ensure that all its children have something to open on Christmas morning. Each child has "bear" card with their wish list written on it. Emerson Centre asks members of the community to take a bear and help make a child's holiday wish come true. Please visit our News page as the Holiday Season approaches for more details. We are able to have these rummage sales because of the kind donations of merchandise by the members of our communities. If you have furniture, electronics, office equipment, collectibles or any other items that you would like to donate, please contact Jenae at jemerson@emersoncentre.com for more information. Donations can be dropped off at Emerson Centre or picked up by an Emerson Centre employee.
